FOOD

Students in Grades 1 - 8 bring their own lunch and sit in designated areas in a supervised cafeteria. Healthy snacks and drinks are sold. Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten have morning snacks and eat lunch in their classrooms. Once a week, the school provides a lunch day, whereby students can purchase lunch for a nominal fee.

HEALTH

The Department of Health provides a full time Registered Nurse.The Health Department records and immunization cards are housed in the nurse's office and are maintained and updated by the school nurse. The school nurse administers care to the students who are sick and administers First Aid. First Aid kits are kept in the school office and in the nurse's office. Emergency cards for each student are kept readily available in the school office. The Department of Health's Vision and Hearing Screening Team visit once a year to evaluate the primary students. Any problems are noted and referred for further evaluation. The school nurse and faculty are trained to use an epi-pen for the children who suffer from severe allergies. Specified faculty are trained in basic first aid and CPR.

GUIDANCE

Our Lady Of Grace has a certified guidance counselor and school psychologist through Title I, available to students in all grade levels. The aim of our guidance program is to assist all children in achieving their maximum potential; to help the children to recognize their own special problems and concerns; to work with members of our school staff in the study of student needs and to identify special problems and concerns; to work with members of our school staff in the study of student needs and to identify special problems through testing, interviews, observations and conferences and to refer students for further evaluation or treatment.

REMEDIAL

Our Lady Of Grace has a part-time speech therapist, provided by the Department of Education. The speech therapist offers speech therapy to students with specified IEP's. Through the Department Of Education Title I program, the school has a remedial writing and reading skills teacher and a remedial math teacher. These teachers provide small group instruction to students who do not meet the grade level criteria. Our Lady Of Grace has, on staff, a part-time remedial teacher who, in conjunction with the homeroom teacher, utilizes small group instruction to strengthen weak reading and writing skills and to provide remediation for the students' individual academic intervention plan.  

TRANSPORTATION

Approximately  19% of our students come to school by a Department of Education sponsored yellow school bus and 4% come by public transportation. New York City bus passes are issued to students in grades 7 & 8, who are eligible. Department of Education offers free yellow school bus service to children in grades K - 6 .77% of our students come to school using other means. A crossing guard is present for safety. Our school utilizes several bus companies to accomodate the teachers and students on local and long distance field trips.

MORNING AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Our Lady of Grace offers a before school program from 7:30-8:00am for those students who need early drop off. This program offers experienced personnel. The time can be used to study or for quiet play. Our Lady Of Grace also offers an after school program from school dismissal until 6:00pm. This program offers experienced personnel, homework assistance, arts and crafts and snacks. Both programs have a nominal fee.
